Correlates Of War
correlates of war

Can compassion describe the divide between conservatives and liberals?
Conservatives do not believe in helping the poor as they see them as lazy, while a liberal sees them as wounded.
This also correlates in a belief that when a person commits a crime there should be a high penalty, while again a liberal sees a criminal as a product of society and compassion should be given to them.
Conservatives believe in war while a liberal believes in the ideal of peace even at the expense of forgiving a few that attack us
.
Liberals believe in conserving the environment while conservatives see no value in this.
Liberals believe in allowing people to hurt themselves in things like abortion, prostitution, and drugs. They see this as true freedom and are willing to help them up after they fall.. Conservatives believe we should limit people’s freedom to hurt themselves so the society does not have to clean up the mess, again no compassion..
is this an accurate assessment? or am i missing something?
Please do not see this as an attack, as it is not, but I do believe that something is missing here…
In light of recent scandal and events it is difficult to try to argue anything from a conservative standpoint, but this is one man’s opinion. I personally believe that many conservatives have compassion, being that I consider myself one. I just believe that that compassion is placed differently than that of a liberal. We have compassion for the poor, as many of us volunteer for soup kitchens, give to Goodwill and charitable organizations, etc. But we as conservatives also believe in a doctrine of personal responsibility. With all of the opportunities we have in this land of ours, and with all of the programs that are already in place to help the poor, many people believe there also is a personal responsibility to TRY to pull yourself up by the bootstraps if you want a better life for yourself and your family.
The person who committed a crime may feel desperate, and our system is supposed to work in such a way that if a crime is out of true desperation or fear for your or your family’s life, then some leeway for mercy is possible. In some countries, you steal something, you lose a hand. No questions asked. Who truly deserves compassion? The murderer? Or the child of the murdered? The mother who will never see her child again? The wife or husband who has to receive the news from a police officer at the door? Who deserves compassion and justice here?
The concept of peace is one all of us should strive for, and I think many do. Most of the time the people who hate to see a war start are the veterans who have fought one; many men have fought in the [false?] hopes that their children may never have to. If you don’t believe me, ask one. But once again who deserves compassion? Five fascist terrorists who because of their own twisted sense of God’s will pilot an airplane into a building? Or about 3000 people who died innocently because said building fell on them? What about the people of the Pentagon and those who died near Pittsburgh, PA? What of their families? And where was the compassion of those terrorists on that fateful day? And let’s not forget that 09/11 was just the date when it came to a head; let’s not forget the times that we did forgive: Khobar Towers, Beirut, The World Trade Center in 1993, and the Navy ship (USS Stark?) that was attacked while in harbor in the Middle East. Many were ready to ask for the blood of a so-called American who performed a terrorist attack in Oklahoma City, but yet when foreigners attack our soil, so many are ready to cry “peace.” Where do the survivors and the dead’s families seek justice, compassion, and peace?
Finally, everybody has the right to their own pursuit of happiness, as long as it does not impinge on the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of others. Do we have compassion for the abortionist? Or for the unborn life which now lays broken and limp in a biohazard trash can? Do we have compassion for the John out looking for a good time on Saturday night, or the woman who out of desperation turns to a life of prostitution and ends up beaten unconscious by her pimp because he didn’t get enough money from her that night? Do we have compassion for the drug addict, or for the child she’s carrying who is born having withdrawal symptoms because he’s addicted to crack? or the family who now has no father because his drug deal went bad last night? Who does your heart bleed for now? Do we feel compassion for the squirrel who lost his favorite tree, or the family who is now on unemployment because Mom or Dad lost their job building chainsaws because the factory had to shut down due to lack of orders?
It is not that conservative minded individuals lack compassion; we just feel that liberals (and the political parties who cater to them) are misguided. Many of us have religious or moral codes that demand compassion. As I said before, it is just a matter of who your heart chooses to bleed for.

Acoustic Correlates of [Voice] $95.59 The present study is an investigation of acoustic correlates corresponding to the category voice] in two dialects of Venezuelan Spanish. The Andean mountain dialect Mrida (MER) and Caribbean coastal dialect Margarita (MAR) are thought to differ systematically in the phonetic implementation of the Spanish phonological stop series. To test what repercussions differences in consonant articulation may have on the acoustic correlates that encode voice], a production experiment was run. Informants were 25 adult monolingual speakers of Venezuelan Spanish from the areas of El Tirano (Margarita Island) and San Rafael de Mucuches (Mrida state). Target syllables were analyzed with respect to 9 acoustic parameters. Results of this study imply that while the same acoustic correlates of voice] are operative in both fortis and lenis dialects of Spanish, voice] categories relate to one another differently. These results are relevant to current research on the specifics of dialectal variation in consonant systems. They also have wider implications for the general mapping of phonetics to phonology in speech. Correlates of Body Mass Index in Children $113.11 This book is about a study that involved a crosssectional examination of a group of 3rd graders to determine if correlates of child body mass index (BMI) existed. Children from the Jefferson County, Alabama area were recruited as a result of their participation in the Hi5+ dietary intervention project. The results from the study indicate that the prevalence of overweight children is high in this cohort. In addition, it appears that there are several predictors of child BMI in this group of children, including certain portions of the diet as well as several psychosocial variables. It is apparent that in light of the current obesity epidemic, determining potential correlates of increased child BMI is extremely important. Correlates of Scientific Literacy $146.58 Investigating the associations between student and school related factors and standardized test scores are important for researchers and policymakers to ensure the social and economical wellbeing of the society. Given that, a vast majority of such studies have been conducted in developed countries, and their results are generalized to developing ones, which often leads to incorrect conclusions. The purpose of this book is to explore the effects of selected student and school level factors on 15yearold students scientific literacy achievement in a developing country, Turkey. Thus, it helps researchers and policymakers understand how the relationships between many exploratory factors and scientific literacy can differ from country to country. Motivation Correlates of Academic Achievement $149.76 The relationship between achievement motivation and academic achievement is complex, but generally, the more a student is motivated to do an academic task, the greater the effort, persistence, and use of cognitive strategies expended on the task, and the better the performance on the task (Pintrich, 2003). The majority of achievement motivation research has been conducted in Western countries (Kumar, 2004). This is a concern as North American classrooms are becoming increasingly culturally diverse. The present study looked at the relationships between motivation and academic achievement in two distinct cultures: Western (Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom) and Asian (Hong KongChina, Japan, and Korea). Hierarchical linear modeling was used to analyze data from the Programme for International Student Assessment 2003 (PISA; OECD, 2004). The findings from this study demonstrate that there are some distinct cultural differences in the relationships between achievement motivation and academic achievement.
