What to buy for an outdoorsman (fisherman, hunter, etc.)?

My boyfriend is 18 and he’s very into the outdoors
He love fly fishing, fresh water fishing, bow hunting, normal hunting, being outdoor’s, going swimming in his pond, walking around, running…etc.
I was thinking maybe an Abu Garcia rod/reel but not sure. I’m NOT buying offline…most likely I will buy from fleet farm, gander mountain, or duhnam’s. We live in Wisconsin and there isn’t much else so please don’t suggest stores…more like specific ideas! THANKS

My personal preference is a gift card from an outdoors shop.
I used to hate gift cards as I felt they were impersonal and forced me to buy something at a specific store. However, over time I’ve realized a gift card allows me to buy exactly what I want rather than accept something I might not care for. A card form an outdoors shop shows you acknowledge their hobbies and want to get them something they will enjoy.

You mention purchasing an Abu Garcia rod and reel. Do you know what specific model? If not, a gift card allows the recipient to get the one they want.

As foolish as it sounds, it’s not the gift, but the thought that counts. Ask to be a part of picking out whatever they buy with a gift card; browse on-line with them. The two of you spending time picking out that one big gift, or a few small gifts, would give him more pleasant memories than his simply opening a gift-box with a new multi-tool in it.
