What should I ask the owner or do for a house on well water?
We made an offer on a house that has well water. What shhould we ask the owner about it?? Are there any tests on the water that we should have done??
Also, the house is hooked up to a septic tank. During farming season, will the septic tank fill up from the water on the rice fields causing our pipes not to drain????

The first thing I’d do, is taste the water. Some wells have great water, like ours. We have a 25′ well, with about 10′ of water in the pipe, and it’s some of the best water we’ve ever tasted. It’s better than most of the bottled stuff we can buy. If the family has lived there and are currently using the water to drink and cook, then there’s probably nothing wrong with it. Have it tested if you’re concerned, but it takes a while and there will be a fee, which you’ll pay. The septic should be ok, unless there are a load of young kids in the house or there’s a disposal in the kitchen sink. Either of those conditions exist, I’d have it pumped before you buy and start from scratch. If you treat it right from there on out, it could be the last time you’d have to have it done.
