State Farm Jobs Employees

So I need some advice on whether or not to go in and talk with this guy about this job? (State Farm)?

So first of all, I’m 18, very strapped for cash, and its a 20 minute drive away which I’d be down for if it was paying more than 10 bucks an hour. Second, it’s for State Farm. Is this a good company to work for as a receptionist or office assitant? Third, the guy says he puts a lot of money and training into his employees so he wants me to stick around for a while, but it’s a part-time job, and I kind of want a full-time one, but I’m DESPERATE. But I also applied to about 100 other jobs through emails. Advice?

If this is a local insurance office, it is probably a standalone business selling state farm insurance. So think of this as working for a small business, not a large corp. This is both good and bad depending on what you are looking for. It will probably not pay as much or have good benefits but it will be personal and close… if you like that kind of thing. If you are just looking for a job, you could probably do worse.

Part 2. Most people doing hiring are older… which means email is an annoyance, not a tool. You may want to retool your job search to include visits and old fashioned handing in applications.

Part 3. Sounds like you are looking for a job. This is about the time you need to be thinking about what you want to do with the rest of your life, not the rest of the year. If you want to get into sales or insurance, great. If not find a job you want to grow into. If you are that hard up for cash there is always the food service industry until you can find something you really want. That way you can make some money and not feel bad when you quit to go do something you really want.

Good Luck.
